Lord Brahspati who is also known as Deva guru is a Hindu God and God of planet. Brahaspati is considered as the ManasPutra (wish born son) of Lord Brhma who was raised and brought up by one of the Saptarishi Agnirasa and his wife Saroopa. Brahaspati had two brothers named as Uthathya and Samvarthana.
There is a very strange story of the birth of Lord Brahaspati. When Brahaspati was in the womb of Saroopa (who was creation on Brahma), she was unfaithfu; towards her husband. As a result she gave birth to a Stillborn child. When she realized her mistake and regain the favor of his husband. Agnirasa then gave his life to his stillborn child and named him as Brahaspati.
Later Brahaspati got married to two girls named as Shubh and Tara. Devi Shubh gave birth to seven daughters and Devi Tara gave birth to seven sons and one daughter, Budha was one of them. According to Historians Budha was unlawful child of Devi Tara whose real father was Chandra Deva (Lord Moon). But Budha wished in front of Brahaspati to became his father and Brahaspati accepted him with open arms.
Brahaspati is also known with different names like God of sacred speech, God of power, Guru of the Gods and Planets, reader of minds and loved by the Gods. According to Bhagwat Geeta, Lord Krishna said amont the priests that he is Brahaspati. Which indicates that Brahaspati is highest and like Bhagwan himself.
According to Jyotisha Shastra Brahaspati ruled over two rashis Sagittarius and Pieces. He is exalted in Cancer and fallen in Capricorn. People born with these rashis believed to blessed with Lord Surya, Lord Chandra and Lord Mangal. Brahaspati is considered as Kaarak which means indicator of fortune, luck, fame and devotion.
Brahaspati is boon to worshiped on the day of Thursday and also the largest planet of Solar system. People who worship Brahaspati able to get cure from stomach problems, ward off their sins, and blessed with valor and longevity. Yellow colored items like Channa Daal, yellow daal, jaggry etc are his favourite for offerings.
